Goole AFC

SEPTEMBER NEWSLETTER

Hello Vikings Supporters

With the football season now on the way we have played 6 matches, 5 in the league and 1 in the F.A Cup preliminary round and we thank each and everyone of you for coming down the Victoria Pleasure Ground to watch us.  It has been a mixed start to the season with a 3-3 draw away at Kidsgrove Athletic followed by another draw at home to Lincoln United.  We then had a long trip down to Shepshed Dynamos and we all came away from there with a 4-2 defeat.  Next we had Retford United at home which saw us play our best football that we have seen with the team dominating most of the game, but lost to a terrible refereeing blunder who gave a penalty in the dying minutes leading to us another defeat losing 2-1.  The next game was a test in the F.A Cup preliminary round facing a tough test with Newcastle Benfields, a much needed win was needed and with £1200 at stake for the winner it saw us play a side that wanted it more than us, losing 4-0 and not getting any money from this competition for our club again adding to our problems that we are currently experiencing.  Our first game in September saw us entertaining Leek Town again we played some good football but poor finishing saw us going down to another defeat 2-1.  That was with 5 new additions to our squad but the signs are looking good and the tide will change hopefully very soon as we have not had any rub of the green so far this season, so let’s get right behind the team and management from the start of each and every game.  That way it is important to us all down at the Victoria Pleasure Ground we get more supporters through the turnstiles to vocally get behind the team.

Our first Meet the Managers Night was a great success and well attended, some really good questions from the floor and some excellent answers from the panel were given with a standing ovation to the panel at the end of the evening.

Following tonights successful meet the manager night, the next event will be held on the 2nd October 2008 at 7.30pm and will be attended by Chairman – Des O’Hearne, Manager – Nigel Danby, Assistant Manager -  Mick Norbury and Team Captain – Brad Hill.  Please come along if you can.

Behind the scenes we have a team of committee members that are working tirelessly to bring in much needed funds and we have put together the forthcoming attraction where again we need as much support from everybody to make these events successful.

WHAT A GREAT NIGHT

As our heading says (WHAT A GREAT NIGHT) we had down at the Victoria Pleasure Ground on Thursday 4th September 2008, it was the first of our monthly Meet The Manager Nights, on the panel saw our manager, Nigel Danby, and our chairman Des O’Hearne along with about 30 fans who had the chance of asking the panel anything that they wanted as long as it was constructive and what a credit the panel and floor was. Each took it in turns asking both Nigel and Des questions on various Goole Footballing topics on players, current start, changes and many more topics were answered honestly by both Des and Nigel.

Des also explained to the supporters about the state of the club and how he has got us back on the right track again financially, but as a result of this it may cost Goole A.F.C a 10 points deduction and how difficult it has been for Nigel due to this in bringing in new players that had been identified by him and only in the last 3 weeks have we been able to do just that.

It was also explained by Nigel how important the fans are to this team and the need to get fully behind them as we are going through this transformation and Des explained again how important it is for the fans to help with the new fundraising events that will be coming along. The importance of getting new fans through the turnstiles to watch the team.

After the break for refurbishments we all got down to it again for another hour of great questions from the floor – what’s gone wrong, how do we get out of our poor start, who are the new players we are bringing in, who will be going etc. Again all these were answered by both Nigel and Des, everything that was asked was answered this being appreciated by the floor with applause at the end of the night. We heard that more of these nights should be arranged for all supporters to voice the views to the management and chairman. We have put into place a monthly night where there will always be someone on the panel from Management to answer the fans concerns, this being Thursday 2nd October with a 7.30 start where we will have Nigel Danby and his assistant Micky Norbury and the Club Captain, Brad Hill so again lets see everybody back down at Victoria Pleasure Ground Club Bar filling it again making these nights something special. We can only do this through your continuous support, you the supporter are all very special to us in making Goole A.F.C a club envious to others.

THANKS FOR NOW
